12th century epic

12th Century Epic

By Lea

The day had come for the deadly war.

She begged and pleaded at his feet.

This could be the day his soul does soar.

A wretched battle he could never beat

He kissed her head in such a way

Her fears almost died right then.

The beats of his pounding heart did say,

"My love, I'll be home again!"

He made his way to the front

The chains of the drawbridge fell.

For if he dies here his soul will haunt

He'd never descend into hell.

And what a fierce battle this was.

A bloodstorm of monsterous size.

He fought as swiftly as a god does

As best he could under storming skies.

How could the heavens let it be

That this knight could lose his life?

With the purest form of love for she...

His beautiful and adoring wife.

But his blood ran over his armoured sheild

And it flowed out with the rain.

Her bravest beloved knight was killed

And would never come home again.

She ran out in the storm under the blackened sky

And held him to her breast.

She screamed in agony to the gods

And vowed that she'd never rest.

She renounced the Lord then and there

For letting death take her knight.

She lay next to him with an adoring stare

And said she'd never leave his sight.

The fury of the battle claimed her too

As she cradled the love of her life.

Now in death there love was immortaly true

And he met her there, his beloved wife.
