a miracle

You know, just when you think that this world couldn't get any smaller and just when you think there aren't miracles in your own lives, the dark and ominous clouds of day-to-day repitition lift and there glows with the most blinding light a miracle which surpasses any other! What I'm going on about is that my husband and his family are now complete. How they got to this conclusion goes like this.

When Mum (Kelvin's mom) was 15 years old in 1960 she gave birth to a beautiful cherub boy and called him Nicholas. Mum was just a child and still lived at home with her own parents and they never did have much money so her parents thought it best to have her give the baby boy up for adoption to a family that COULD afford to take care of him. Mum absolutely did not want this, however she knew she had nothing more than love to offer the baby and we all know you can't live on love alone. So after having her baby for only one week of his sweet little life she parted with him.

He was adopted when he was 6 months old in England not too far from Mums village. Mum was here in Texas in August this past summer visiting us and told me the whole story about Nicholas and how the entire situation came to be. With tears in her eyes she told me that she would give anything to one day have the chance to meet him and see for herself that she in fact did make the right decision and that he had a good life as a result.

No sooner did Mum tell me this that she received a letter a couple of months after her visit with me. The letter was from the adoption agency and in that letter was a letter from Nicholas who is now 43 years old. His name is now Julian given to him by his new parents. In his letter he told Mum that he does not hold anything against her, that he understands how hard it must have been for her to raise him at such a tender age, and that he has had so many adventures in his life he just wants to share with her. His P.S. read simply that he wishes Mum and the rest of the family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Well Mum said that's the best Christmas present anyone could have ever given her. She wrote Julian back and we wrote him as well. I included my phone number and address and email address in the letter.

So my phone rings at 3:00 this morning and who do you think it was? JULIAN! What a beautiful and amazing surprise! The first thing I said when I heard him speak was "you sound just like Steve Irwin!" Though he was born a Brit, he has grown up in Australia and now speaks with the Australian accent and everything! He moved there when he was only 4. Julian has had many professions in his life. He has worked as a youth counselor and helped refugees reunite with their lost family members. He studies martial arts. He also studies and has dwelled with the Aborigines of the Great Outback and has learned their "magic", as he calls it, their art of self healing. He currently is an author and editor of a magazine publication in Australia and is doing pretty well with that.

He plans on coming to visit us this year and also to visit Mum in England. Actually he said he is planning to move to Nevada and be with a lady he met on the internet(sound familiar).

All of this comes to us just 3 days before Christmas, the most precious gift we could ever ask for. He is everything we all thought he would be and more. He is a joyous conversation, a gifted and talented man, and most importantly he is the piece that has been missing from Mum's dear heart for the last 43 years and she is the piece missing from his as well. Even with 43 years and 3 contenants apart there are still dreams that come true. I just wanted to share this with you, especially those who have trouble believing in things. It has certainly proven me wrong and I am so grateful that it has!
